  • $3.4 million for Youth Futures to support a new teen crisis accommodation facility
  • New facility to provide short-term accommodation for young people aged 15 to 19
  • Support for teens experiencing homelessness or those unable to stay in their family home

A re-elected McGowan Labor Government will provide $3.4 million to support a new crisis accommodation facility in the northern suburbs for teenagers who are experiencing homelessness or unable to stay in their family home.

Youth Futures will build the new facility, which will replicate their existing TINOCA (Teenagers In Need of Crisis Accommodation) facility built in 1988, to provide accomodation for a further six young people aged 15 to 19.

TINOCA provides short term accommodation, with options for residents to stay from one night up to three months depending on their situation.

During their stay, young people are provided with essentials such as nutritious meals, warm showers and toiletries.

A Youth Worker is also on-site at all times to provide residents with support in a variety of areas, including:

  • Developing independent living skills such as cooking, cleaning and budgeting;
  • Accessing education or employment;
  • Achieving family reunification (where appropriate);
  • Developing a plan for securing longer term accommodation;
  • Accessing other support services, such as mental health support; and
  • A Drug Education and Support Worker is also located onsite to help young people address any drug and alcohol misuse.
