A re-elected McGowan Labor Government will help create a Kings Park of the north, investing $8.5 million to preserve and enhance Yellagonga Regional Park in Joondalup.

Works will include the construction of a seven kilometre mountain bike trail, a boardwalk in the section of park between Ocean Reef Road and Whitfords Avenue, and a nature playground adjacent to Luisini Winery.

The installation of interpretive signage around Lake Goollelal and throughout the park will further enhance the much loved precinct, which is home to wildlife such as long necked turtles, frogs, kangaroos and more than 120 species of birdlife.

Additional planting around the lake shore will help improve water quality and the construction of a viewing platform and boardwalk will provide access to Lake Joondalup on the Wanneroo side.

The existing community areas will be connected to the waterfront by way of signage and the completion of cycling and walk trails on the eastern side of Lake Joondalup.

Furthermore, increased rehabilitation funding will be provided to the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and the Friends of Yellagonga Regional Park, ensuring the protecting and restoration of the biodiversity of the park.
