• WA Labor to boost its record-breaking cycling infrastructure investment
• Re-elected McGowan Labor Government to bolster cycling commitments across WA
• Cycling package comes on top of the McGowan Government’s unprecedented investment

The McGowan Labor Government’s unprecedented cycling investments across WA will be further boosted with a $16.7 million package of works – if re-elected.

The package is in addition to more than $370 million the McGowan Government has already invested in cycling projects and trail infrastructure across the State.

Working with local councils and shires, the cycling package will better connect suburbs and keep people safer on roads and comprises of:

• $1.4 million to completing 2.8kmof missing sections along Railway Avenue in Kelmscott
• $4.3 million to expand the Geraldton Cycling Network with 8.35km worth of shared paths
• $8.25 million to expand the Hillarys Cycle Network connecting Burns Beach to Hillarys with 10km of paths and 2.5km of the Hepburn Avenue shared path from Whitfords Avenue to Gibson Avenue
• $750,000 towards the Koondoola-Wanneroo Bike Plan, a 1km shared path connecting Marangaroo Drive and Butterworth Avenue; and aligning 830 metres of path between Koondoola Avenue to Beach Rd
• $360,000 to upgrade about 1.1km of the Gnangara Shared Path between Egerton Drive to Henley Brook Avenue
• $1.1 million for the Rosedale Road shared path connecting Chidlow town centre to Lake Leschenaultia
• $500,000 boost, over four years, for WestCycle to continue its important work

The shared user paths will encourage more cycling and walking in a safer way and through their construction support local jobs and businesses.

These projects will build on the 50 odd projects already underway this year alone as part of the McGowan Labor Government’s $220 million cycling infrastructure investments.

Already major projects planned as a result of the $220 million investment includes the new Causeway Cyclist and Pedestrian Bridge that links Victoria Park to the Perth CBD. Procurement for the iconic Causeway project is expected to start next week, along with construction on further extensions of PSPs along Perth’s highway and freeways.

Over the past year more Western Australians have taken up cycling which has resulted in cycling trips rising 45 per cent across metropolitan Perth.

What the McGowan Labor Government is already delivering:

• Invested $220 million, over four years, towards cycling projects across WA.
• The McGowan Government is injecting $150 million into the State’s tourism sector, through its WA Recovery Plan, with millions of dollars committed to developing trails and 'trails towns' around the State to service existing and new trails.
• $115 million of cycling infrastructure already delivered in McGowan Government’s first three years
• In addition, there is $20 million for bike trails in Kalamunda and Mundaring in the Perth Hills, and regional WA including Albany, Denmark, Mount Barker, Plantagenet, Pemberton and Margaret River.
• Committed $10 million to make Collie a world-class trail adventure town, creating over 180km of high quality-mountain bike and bushwalking trails in Collie alone.
